✍️ How Blind Writing Works

The core of Last Word is writing in the dark. Each player only sees the single sentence written right before their turn.

1. The Story Opener (Turn 1)

The game begins in a selected genre (e.g. Mystery, Sci-Fi, Noir, Horror, or Rom-Com). The first writer is given 3 creative opening prompts or can choose to pen their own custom opening sentence.

2. Blind Sequential Turns

When your turn comes, you see only the single line written immediately before yours. You cannot see how the story started, how many twists occurred, or what other players have planned. Write the next logical—or hilariously illogical—sentence before the timer runs out!

3. Secret Constraints & Wildcards

Some turns arrive with surprise constraints (e.g., “Must mention a tropical fruit” or “Write in dramatic rhyme”). Meeting the constraint earns a bonus point when the story concludes!

4. Live Heckles & Crowd Fun

While the current writer is typing away under the clock, everyone else can cheer, react, or send floating heckles from the sidelines.

🎭 How the Story Is Revealed & Crowned

Once all rounds are complete, the dark curtain lifts and the entire creation is unveiled.

1. The Typewriter Reveal

The entire story is presented line-by-line in a dramatic typewriter presentation. Players react live with floating emoji explosions (😂, 💀, 🔥, 👏) as they witness how completely the narrative derailed.

2. Title Pitch & Voting

Every player secretly pitches a title for the completed story. Then, everyone votes on their favorite title (you can’t vote for your own). The author of the winning title scores +2 bonus points!

3. The Awards Ceremony

Review all sentences and vote for the room’s top honors:
• 🏆 Pulitzer (Best Line): +3 points to the most witty, poetic, or brilliant sentence.
• 💀 Most Cursed Line: +3 points to the sentence that threw all logic out the window.

4. Downloadable Story Card & Continuity

At the results screen, you can download a story cover card image to share on social media. The host can choose 🔁 Play Again for a brand new tale, or 📖 Continue Story to carry your plot over into Chapter 2!

🌀 Special Roles & Plot Twists

🌀 Plot Twist Tokens

Every player holds 1 Plot Twist token per game. Slam it onto an opponent's turn to hit them with a sudden curveball obstacle!

🕵️ The Secret Saboteur

When enabled, one player is secretly tasked with sneaking a forbidden word into the story. Guess correctly during awards to catch them, or the Saboteur scores points for fooling the room!
